Android Counterclank – Son of Tonclank

Android Counterclank

Android Counterclank AlertAndroid Counterclank | As if there wasn’t enough to worry about these days with the economy moving at a pace a snail would be ashamed of then along comes the Android Counterclank. According to Symantec Android Counterclank is a variant of the Android Tonclank Trojan House malware. Both of these pieces of work attach themselves to apps in the Android Marketplace and when activated steal info and may even create a backdoor into any Android phone or Android tablet.

Symantec has stated that they have counted between 1 million and 5 million downloads of Android Counterclank on 13 different apps. The apps affected are in the entertainment and games arena and include Counterstrike Ground Force, Wild Man and Sexy Girls Photo Game to name a few.

Lookout Mobile Security (Rival Software Vendor) sees it differently though and says that Counterclank doesn’t qualify to be called malware, just overly aggressive adware. They say that the search icon it places on the home screen simply links exclusively to partner ads. Whether it’s malware or overly aggressive adware it matters not, most if not all of us do not want this stuff on our machines.

Fear not though it’s Norton (Symantec Software) to the rescue with Norton Mobile Security. Norton Mobile Security is available in the Android Marketplace or on Norton.mobi as a 90 day free download. Norton Mobile Security protects against unauthorized access to your stuff, viruses, malware (Counterclank) and harmful downloads.

A couple of really cool features of Norton Mobile Security is that it will let you remotely lock your phone if it’s stolen or lost and will then show you the phones present location. Another feature is that it will instantly lock your phone if the Sim card is removed and replaced with another. Take that you would be thief!

Really though folks, does it really matter whether your worried about Counterclank, Tonclank or some other nasty piece of work. Reality is you should have some sort of regularly updated protection on your phone or your tablet, so trundle on over to the Android Marketplace, Amazon App Store or Norton.mobi and get covered.

You’ll be glad you did later.
