The Asus Transformer Prime Android Tablet

Asus Transformer Prime

Asus Transformer PrimeAsus Transformer Prime | Well the Asus Transformer Prime Android Tablet is finally on the market and ready for purchase. According to many this is the first Android tablet that may have a shot at being an iPad killer. The Asus Transformer Prime will also be the first tablet to get an upgrade to the new Ice Cream Sandwich version of the Android Operating System sometime in the coming year (2012).

So why all the brouhaha over the Asus Transformer Prime? Well other than being the first tablet to get the new Android update it is also the first quad core tablet to come onto the market as well. Combine that with a keyboard docking station and Asus hopes that they have what it takes to knock Apple down a peg or two. Any way you look at it though the Asus Transformer Prime will be a force to reckon with, so let’s check into the specs a little closer.

Asus Transformer Prime Specifications

  • The core of this machine is the Tergra 3 Quad-core processor with 1GB of DDR2 RAM memory.
  • Asus Transformer Prime comes in 2 versions, 32 GB and 64 GB of onboard memory.
  • Prime’s screen is a 10.1 inch 1280 x 800 super IPS Capacitive Multi Touch Display made with Corning’s Gorilla Glass.
  • The Asus Transformer Prime is one of the thinnest tablets on the market coming in at .33 inches, weighing only 1.29 pounds and having an overall footprint of 10.35 x 7.12 x .33 inches.
  • Two cameras are included. The front facing camera is 1.2 megapixels and the rear facing camera is 8 megapixels.

  • Built-in 802.11n WiFi and Bluetooth v2.1 have been included.

Yep the Asus Transformer Prime has some pretty impressive specs, but I generally like to put more of my faith in what real folks have to say about something. Unfortunately supplies of the tablet have not kept up with demand so reviews are somewhat sparse at the present time, but the ones that are out there give it an 80% favorability rating. One concern we have is that the tablet by itself doesn’t have a USB port and you will have to add the optional docking station to get one. The favorability rating is something we will keep track of as more units are delivered, which should start happening about the third week of January 2012.
