The New Toshiba Excite Tablets – Coming Soon

On April 10, 2012 Toshiba announced three Toshiba Excite tablets that will join their lineup within the next two months. The tablets will be a 7.7 inch, 10 inch and a 13.3 inch behemoth with the 7 and 10 inch versions slated to replace Toshiba’s existing Thrive tablets. This comes hot on the heels of Toshiba releasing the Toshiba Excite 10LE over month ago.

So just what will all of these tablets be bringing to the market? Good question, let’s jump in and look a little further into the specs to see what you’ll be getting.

Toshiba Excite Tablets Details:

• All of the  Toshiba Excite tablets will offer quad-core Nvidia Tegra 3 processors with 1 GB of onboard RAM.

• All the Toshiba Excite tablets will come with Android ICS 4.0 installed.

• The 13 inch tablet will be available in 32 GB and 62 GB versions, 10 inch tablet in 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB versions with the 7 inch tablet available in 16 GB and 32 GB versions.

• Display resolutions will be 1200 x 800 on the 7.7 as well as the 10 inch tablets and a 1600 x 900 resolution on the 13.3 inch tablet. All will have a 16:9 aspect ratios.

• All will sport a 5 megapixel camera on the back with a 2 megapixel front facing camera for web conferencing.

• No 3G/4G capability is available, but Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity are incorporated.

• Battery life on the 10 inch tablet will be 10 hours with seven days of standby and 13.3 inch tablet delivering 13 hours with seven hours of standby. No numbers were available for the 7.7 inch tablet.

• Input ports on the Toshiba Excite tablets will include a micro USB, micro HDMI and a full sized SD card slot.

• Weights for each of the Toshiba Excite tablets are as follows: The 7 inch tablet is 13.4 ounces, 1.32 pounds for the 10 inch tablet and the 13 inch tablet will weigh in at slightly more than 2 pounds.

Will the 13 inch Toshiba excite tablets be an iPad killer? Probably not. The display is below the iPad’s 2048 x 1536 pixels and the price point of the 64 GB model is $749.99. The screen resolution people will probably be willing to overlook, but in this economy the price point will have to come down if Toshiba is to make inroads against the iPad.

Here are the rest of price points as announced by Toshiba.

1. 7 inch Excite tablet: 16 GB at $499.99, 32 GB at $579.99. Will be available starting June 10, 2012.
2. 10 inch Excite tablet: 16 GB at $499.99, 32 G.B of $529.99, 64 GB and $649.99. Will be available starting May 6, 2012.
3. 13 inch excite tablet: 32 GB at $649.99, 64 GB at $749.99. Will be available starting June 10, 2012.

The first question might come your mind is why would anybody buy the 7.7 inch Toshiba tablet at these price points? The Acer Iconia Tab A510 has about the same specs for the 32 GB and does it at $50.00 less.
