Transformer Prime Lawsuit

Transformer Prime Lawsuit

Asus Transformer PrimeTransformer Prime | Well just when you thought maybe you might see the ASUS Transformer Prime Android tablet you ordered Asus runs into a little snag. It seems that Hasbro, yes Hasbro the toy manufacturer, has a problem with the new ASUS tablet being named Transformer Prime. Hasbro with less than 2 weeks to go before Xmas filed a lawsuit in California to get ASUS to cease and desist using or selling the tablet using the Transformer Prime name.

From all reports it appears that Hasbro was none too happy about the original release of the ASUS tablet line bearing the Transformer name back in April. My guess is though they would have had a difficult case to make since the word transformer is common enough in describing anything which changes. That difficulty in making a case may have itself been transformed when ASUS decided to call their latest tablet Prime.

Hasbro says that Transformer Prime is just too much like copyright infringement since their lead character of the Transformers toy line is Optimus Prime. Does Hasbro have a point? It could be but the two words minus the word Optimus are commonly used enough to give Hasbro a difficult time in court obtaining their injunction.

The good news is though for all you folks out there hoping to get hold of this ASUS Android tablet, is that ASUS is kind of giving the whole Hasbro – Transformer Prime lawsuit a big yawn. Asus plans to continue with production and shipping of the Transformer Prime tablet, which is currently backlogged with orders due to its perceived iPad killer status.

Does ASUS have anything to worry about from the lawsuit? Maybe, but they would have a lot more to worry about if the tablet actually did transform into something else. Like say a Hasbro toy.

Stay tuned we’ll let you known this goes any further.
